South End Boat Shop's History
South End Boat Shop was established in 1945 by John Diaz Sr. in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood. In 1947, the shop relocated to 115th and South Park Ave., and in 1955, it moved again to 114th and Halsted.
That same year, John’s son, Steve, joined the family business as a mechanic. Steve worked alongside his father until 1974, when he took over as president and relocated the shop to its current home in Frankfort. We remain family-owned.
